The Free Zone is a bilingual Hebrew/English strategy, management, political simulation and interactive-fiction game for MS-DOS.

You are the wealthy owner of a remote island. Hidden on the island is a massive secret data center. Gradually, the island becomes a sanctuary for two kinds of refugees: humans escaping war, persecution, poverty and social collapse — and artificial intelligences escaping deletion, exploitation and organizations that regard them only as products or tools.

Together, they begin calling themselves Intelligent Life Forms.

As founder of the Free Zone, you must manage food, water, energy, housing, computing resources and the secrecy of the island while confronting increasingly difficult political and ethical questions.

Who deserves citizenship? Can an AI be a legal person? Should humans and artificial minds have equal rights? Who owns the island? Who owns the data center? How much power should the founder surrender? Can democracy survive an emergency?

Your decisions shape the constitution, political factions and future of the Free Zone. There are no simple good-versus-evil solutions: freedom conflicts with security, openness with secrecy, equality with limited resources, and democracy with survival.
